AAI Lecture in association with DOCOMOMO Ireland and the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government
Synge Theatre, Arts Block, Trinity College, Dublin 2. November 10, 2010, 7:30pm.
Mies van der Rohe designed the Villa Tugendhat in Brno in the Czech Republic in 1928, including most of the furnishings for the house, such the Tugendhat chair and the Brno chair, both of which are still in production today. Construction was completed in 1930. Together with his contemporaneous Barcelona Pavilion, the Villa Tugendhat, which was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001, marked a turning point in the history of 20th-century architecture. A comprehensive programme of reconstruction and restoration of the Villa began in January 2010 under the guidance of an international advisory committee. Architect Iveta Černá is the director of the Villa Tugendhat museum.
Note: There will be no admission charge for this event.
