Johan Celsing arkitektkontor is a Swedish architectural practice based in Stockholm with a filial office in Malmö. The practice is reknowned for the design of buildings for universities and cultural institutions such as the Nobel Forum 1993, The University College of Teachers 2001 in Stockholm and art institutions such as Millesgården Art Gallery 1999, the Museum of Sketches 2004 and the Bonnier Building and Art Gallery 2006. Currently the practice is also active with projects in the field of rituals and worship with such works as the Church at Årsta 2011 and the new Crematorium at the Woodland Cemetery in Stockholm which will be inaugurated in the autumn of 2013. Other current works include a mosque in Stockholm and a new University auditorium in Uppsala.
The architecture is characterized by the straight forward design solutions and attention to craftsmanship. The practice has been highly appreciated for the ability to create contemporary architecture in contexts of historical value. The works have a restrained visual appearance that is combined with intense articulation of the spatial qualities, atmospheres and the material treatment of the buildings.
