Housing Solutions

The AAI are thrilled to host Anne Femmer and Florian Summa of SUMMACUMFEMMER for the next lecture in our Housing Solutions series, an exploration of qualitative issues in contemporary housing, showcasing a selection of international & Irish case studies in affordable, cooperative, experimental and social housing.

With thanks to The Technological University of Dublin and Building Change for their collaboration on this event, and to the Trinity College Dublin School of Social Work and Social Policy for their collaboration on this series.

SUMMACUMFEMMER is an architectural practice based in Leipzig, Germany, that was founded in 2015 by Anne Femmer and Florian Summa. They consider their built and unbuilt work as exploratory investigations into a wide range of issues – from experimental ways of constructing between economy and ambition, to burning questions of form, shape and expression.

In this lecture, they will reflect on the relationship between construction and living in their housing projects, including the experimental cooperative housing scheme „San Riemo“ in Munich.

SUMMACUMFEMMER are Architects in Residence at the School of Architecture, Building and Environment, TU Dublin. Their residency is part of the SABE 2025 Building Change programme of events. Building Change is a unique project with all six schools of architecture in the state working collaboratively to revise our curricula to address the climate and housing crises.

SUMMACUMFEMMER‘s teaching is characterised by an approach of simultaneous research, design and building. Anne and Florian have previously taught at ETH Zurich, TU Munich, TU Graz and are currently visiting professors at UdK Berlin.

In 2023 they were co-curators of the German Pavilion at the 18th Biennale Architettura in Venice.
