The AAI are proud to host a site visit to The Lookout, Harbour Road Dalkey by Henry J Lyon Architects and Winterbrook Homes
Architect’s Description:
The Lookout Harbour Road is a new residential development of 94 apartments overlooking Dalkey Island accommodated in two parallel ‘white terraces’ facing the sea and Dublin mountains.
The layout of the buildings on the site follows a long tradition of set-piece seaside architecture in Dublin suburbs reminiscent of the 19th century white terraces of Dun Laoghaire, Blackrock, Monkstown and Glasthule.
The configuration of the two terraces of apartments forms a pair of courtyard gardens sheltered from the prevailing south-westerly winds. Shared residential amenities link the two blocks and provide access to the gardens.
The landscaping of the gardens and edge spaces knits the new development into the surrounding mature landscape character of Dalkey while softening the impact of the set piece buildings in the immediate vicinity.
The configuration of balconies allows for increased daylight into the living areas while the white bricks project an image of contemporary living while increasing light reflectivity to the lower level apartments.
