Architect’s Description:
The project involves the transformation of the former St. Senan’s Psychiatric Hospital, a Protected Structure dating from the 1860s overlooking the River Slaney. The 3-storey building is 238m long and is punctuated with a series of Italianate stair towers. 56 no. apartments are accommodated in the existing red brick building with a further 14 no. apartments proposed in new annex buildings to the rear. The ground level of the former administrative block in the centre of the plan will accommodate support spaces for the residents arranged around a planted courtyard.
