Peripheral Vision

The Architectural Association of Ireland (AAI), in partnership with Architecture Kerry, is delighted to present Peripheral Vision, a symposium examining architecture built in the margin, projects built on or within places of periphery, edge and in-between.

Panelists including Peter Carroll of A2 Architects, Nicci Brock of Brock Finucane Architects, Tadhg Casey of Tadhg Casey Architects, and Stephen Foley of Foley Architects, will present some recent work, followed by a discussion moderated by architect and former AAI President Orla O’Kane.

Nicci Brock
Brock Finucane Architects

Brock Finucane is an architectural practice engaged in design, research, and education, led by Nicci Brock and Ruairi Finucane.

The practice is engaged in cultural, infrastructural, strategic research and residential work in Ireland and elsewhere. Our work based on the interrogation and investigation of the physical, social, historic, economic and legislative environments in which we work. This approach is framed by contextual, cultural and environmental sensitivity.

Nicci Brock has taught in CCAE UCC/MTU, and UCD, where she is currently a Design Fellow. She has been a guest critic and contributor to QUB, SAUL, CCAE, and TUD.

Ruairi Finucane has taught in CCAE UCC/MTU, and UCD, where he is currently a Design and Teaching Fellow, specialising in Professional Practice. He has been a guest critic and contributor to SAUL, and CCAE

Peter Carroll
A2 Architects

A2 Architects was established in 2005. Based in Dublin, the practice is founded on a shared interest in both the continuing development of architectural practice and the unchanging, essential nature of architecture.

Tadhg Casey
Tadhg Casey Architects

Tadhg Casey is an architect from a dairy farm in North Kerry now practicing in Tralee. A graduate of Waterford Institute of Technology, Tadhg Casey Architects believes in the lessons of vernacular architecture; a simplicity of approach, no wastage, use of sustainable local materials and the empowerment of people, and that they are relevant today, and try to be an example in delivering sustainable and imaginative architecture through teamwork, trust and integrity in practice.

Stephen Foley
Foley Architects

Stephen graduated as an architect from Dublin Institute of Technology (now TU Dublin) and has a Masters in Advanced Architecture from the School of Architecture Madrid (ETSAM). He founded Foley Architects in 2016 which is an award-winning architectural practice driven by creating functional buildings and spaces that connect to their physical and social contexts.

He led a 4th year design unit at the Cork Centre for Architectural Education and has taught at the School of Architecture Madrid (ETSAM), the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), AA Visiting School Barcelona and University College London. In 2017 he was awarded the RIAI Future Award which is given to Emerging Irish Architects and since then his projects have won various awards among them the prestigious RIAI Public Choice Award for Ireland favourite Building, The Lark Concert Hall Balbriggan.

His current work/research includes a passenger ferry terminal for Rossaveel Fishery Harbour, Killybegs Small Craft Harbour, the adaptive reuse of Lucan House Demesne on the river Liffey and community infrastructure along the Grand Canal in Lucan Dublin.
