Building Material is an annual architecture journal, joint published by the Architectural Association of Ireland (AAI), the All-Ireland Architecture Research Group (AIARG), and the Irish Architecture Foundation (IAF).
The 21st edition of the journal is focused on the theme of ‘Practise’. To celebrate the book’s publication, a special launch event shall be held, featuring a short discussion with Jude Barber (Director, Collective Architecture) concerning different methods and potentials in architectural practice.
Jude Barber is an architect and director at Collective Architecture. The 40-strong, 100% employee-owned and controlled studio has offices in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Collective Architecture specialises in social housing, civic buildings, green infrastructure and conservation. The practice is founded on principles of creative freedom, equity, civic participation and sustainability.
Jude is an external examiner at the Department of Architecture at The University of Sheffield, a recent Board Member of the Glasgow Women’s Library and was Convenor of the Saltire Society Housing Design Awards between 2000-2016.
Jude will present an overview of Collective Architecture’s work within existing Scottish communities to shed light on the studio’s collaborative structure and process. Through a series of project examples, Jude will outline the breadth of Collective Architecture’s practice, influence and thinking.
