The AAI are delighted to present a discussion on architectural publishing and platforms.
Please join Emmett Scanlon, founder of the Story Building platform and the Director of the Irish Architecture Foundation, Aoife Bláthnaid Nolan, founder of the Glasgow based _ism magazine, and Michael Hayes, founder of type.ie and editor of Architecture Ireland, the journal of the RIAI, and 2ha: the journal of suburban design, who will be discussing publication/platform building and the role this plays in architecture and architectural culture.
Emmett Scanlon is an architect, writer, broadcaster and curator.
He is the Director of the Irish Architecture Foundation, and a member of the International Committee of Architecture Critics. In 2022 he founded Story, Building, an independent publisher of criticism in architecture, working in print, online and via podcast, and in 2023 was the Artistic and Editorial Organiser of La Biennale di Venezia.
Aoife Bláthnaid Nolan is founder and editor-in-chief of -ism architecture magazine, a publication based in Glasgow that celebrates bold and current critical reflection. -ism has published four issues since 2019, and recently co-curated A Fragile Correspondence, Scotland’s commission for the 18th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia in 2023. Aoife is currently working as Part II Architectural Assistant while living in Glasgow.
Michael K. Hayes is a founding member and managing editor of Type, a platform for design in the built environment (type.ie). He is the editor of Architecture Ireland, the journal of the RIAI, and 2ha: the journal of suburban design.
