The AAI is proud to present the annual AAI Critic’s Lecture, by Dr Adrian Lahoud, Chair of the Jury for the 2024 AAI Awards

Dr. Adrian Lahoud is Dean, School of Architecture and Fellow at the Royal College of Art. He sits on the board of the Architecture Foundation, Design Museum Future Observatory, New Architecture Writers, the Arabic cultural platform Ma3azef, and was Convenor and Co-Chair of the Rights of Future Generation Working Group. Prior to his role at RCA, he was director of the MA programme at the Centre for Research Architecture, Goldsmiths and Studio Master in the Projective Cities MPhil in Architecture and Urban Design at the Architectural Association. In 2019 he curated the inaugural Sharjah Architecture Triennial, the first major international platform for architecture and urbanism in the global south

He has worked as a Research fellow on the Forensic Architecture ERC grant at Goldsmiths as part of their collaboration with Amnesty International on the Gaza platform. Through private practice and teaching, Lahoud explores the disputed, confliced and often paradoxical transformation of cities. His research work is focused on architecture and urbanism in the global south.

Often writing on climate change and colonialism, Lahoud is developing work on anthropological understandings of shelter and dwelling. His doctoral dissertation, The Problem of Scale: The City, the Territory, the Planetary, explores how spatial problems are structured using the concept of scale.
