Description from the Architects:
The site for the House on Dalkey Hill has protected views over it towards Dublin Bay. It was a starting point for us to think about this house being low and integrated within a landscape. The mass of the new building is broken up into three blocks conceived as granite outcrops.
Reflecting the granite tones of the local stone, a pigmented layered concrete is used as the external envelope. The formwork was designed to make an uneven surface much like the local stone. Though the proposed forms are simple, the process of making the walls will add a soft and gentle texture.
The planting plays a vital part in blending the volumes of the house into the wider landscape. The roofs and courtyards, front and rear gardens have been carefully choreographed to provide privacy to the owners and views of the bay to the public from the street.
