Lecture x2: McCullough Mulvin Architects and Shaffrey Architects

For this special joint lecture, McCullough Mulvin Architects and Shaffrey Architects shall give a talk on two Irish projects selected for the 2019 EU Mies Award shortlist. Nominated for the Medieval Mile Museum, Kilkenny, and 14 Henrietta Street, Dublin, respectively, both practices will present the thinking and making behind these works. Sharing themes of conservation and reuse, the lecture is envisioned as an opportunity for conversation between projects, betweens architects, and the public.

McCullough Mulvin

Niall McCullough, with Valerie Mulvin founded McCullough Mulvin Architects; they are now joined by Ruth O’Herlihy, Ronan and Coran O’Connor in this design-based architecture and urban design practice located in Dublin. Niall’s recent projects include St Mary’s Medieval Mile Museum, Kilkenny, and the Military Archives, Dublin. Niall is currently working on the Butler Gallery in the Evans Home in Kilkenny, on Printing House Square student housing in Trinity College Dublin and on new buildings for Thapar University in the Punjab, India. 


Shaffrey Architects

Shaffrey Architects was established in 1967 by Patrick and Maura Shaffrey. The practice has undertaken architectural, urban design and planning projects throughout Ireland and possess a wide knowledge of Irish towns and cities.Architectural work includes the conservation, adaptation and extension of historic buildings and new buildings in existing urban settings. Urban design and planning practice centres principally on historic / existing urban centres and complexes, including their regeneration, consolidation and extension and is concerned with integration of new and existing urban fabric and public spaces which facilitate social and physical diversity.

Note the standard entry fee of €5 applies for non-members, with the option of purchasing an official CPD receipt for an additional €5.
